Found a new personal best trout yesterday in an unlikely location. Low flows allowed for some scrambling into a very hidden and well protected deep pool between large granite blocks. He took a coffee sparkle minnow and
had a mate that was almost as big. makes me wonder if even larger exist in there?!
25" and a fat slab, maybe 8 lbs? My new 9' 5wt Scott A4 was put to the test in tight quarters, but did great in the fight. Without being able to run up or downstream, the fish tried to dive beneath some deep boulders and scrape me off. Luckily I had just retied a fresh length of 2x fluoro leader on and was able to turn him from the sharper edges.

That is one heck of a pretty fish, TB! Is that blood behind his eye or is that his color pattern? The colors are already amazing but if that was part of his patterning that would be awesome. What a monster, congratulations!

Seems like most rainbows have a 'color pallet' due to their diet and surroundings. Some have a blue-pink hue, others are deep green-to red. That guy was mustard yellow-crimson burgundy. I had a smaller net with a 15x11 gap. It was hard to keep him halfway in for a photo. If I had to estimate girth I would say 17-18 and a solid 8" tall.

Between points A-B is 5 inches for reference!

Another right before I let him go.
