The Duncans Loop or Uni-Knot

There is a fishing knot that does it all - ties flies or lures to your leader, creates loop knots, splices two line segments together, snells hooks, attaches leaders to a fly line, and more. It sounds like a tall order but the Duncan Loop or Uni-knot is up to the task. Its breaking strength is at the top end of the spectrum - 95% or better. The knot is stronger and more versatile than the traditional blood or cinch knots typically used by fishermen.

The illustration depicts the basic knot. The basic process is to form a circle knot and wrapping the tag end through it six times. Once formed simply pull it tight against the hook eye.

Default Re: One Knot that Does it All

I love this knot and use it almost all the time ... a couple of other things the Duncan's Loop does: (1) if not cinched down against the hook's eye, it allows the fly to swim freely; (2) It acts as a shock absorber to the tippet when Friend Fish strikes. (The impetuous of the strike closes the loop.)
