i am no longer willing to tolerate the large inadequacy of my 8.5ft 5wt. the saving grace to this rod, which has keep it my only 5wt for about 15 years is how fast the action is. i have now started to cast other rods in preparation for finding a solution. i have tried a "fast" st. croix legend 9' 6wt rod and even with a 5wt line it flexes more than my rod. i also tried a g loomis glx 9ft 5wt. this rod was much closer to what i have now but i would still like something faster, if possible. if i have to get a 4 piece blank i will but i want to possible have some extra fast action blanks i can maybe pick throw. is this a realistic goal?

thank you for your time.

I have been wanting to do something with it (unless if it'll be worth THAT much to let it sit as-is)

For the rod builders here. Can I turn this into a flyrod? Give me suggestions please. The front handle is a good fit to my hand + I can probably make a modification there. I figured the back handle can be trimmed down but where the issue lyes is extending it. I would need to adapt a compatable bamboo tip of sorts.

I never built a rod before but wondering if this can be a do-able project to get my feet wet.

Any practical difference between inletted and noninletted handle/reel seat rods

I have always used inletted cork handles but recently acquired a reel seat that does not provide for an inletted handle. Outside of the obvious difference between the two, is there any practical difference in performance or durability of the rod if the unletted handle is properly put together?...

I'm probably gonna get a rod wrapper or dryer. Do I need a cork reamer? What about files, drills, sandpaper, other stuff? Also, whats the best site to acquire rod making supplies?

I appreciate any help that you guys can give.
