ill be fishing mainly for bream and suwannee/largemouth bass. i just wonder what would be a good fly for this time of year? ive only got four at the moment, an ant, one with a brown body and orange tail, one with a brown body and salt and pepper tail, and one with a brown, skinny body and a yellow tuft at the top.

ill probably get a popper to use, and im thinking about a foam bodied insect. ive always had luck with cricket lures, but it may be kind of late in the year.

any insight?

thanks,

I have been looking at a few rods to answer some questions for another member of the forum. He has an 8 weight that when you look at the real rating as determined with the common cents system it actually a 5/6 wt. He also has a 5 wt. which is really a 6. As you can see, there are some real problems with the way manufacturers rate their products. This makes it pretty hard for us to put the right line on the rods we buy without making a couple of tries. This also makes the question of underlining or overlining kind of pointless because we may be doing that without meaning to anyway. This was all gone over in a couple of other threads but I think the recent questions I have seen and recieved deserve this being posted again. Here is the link to the common cents ratings for many rods.

http://www.superbob.org/CC_Data.htm

If you google common cents system you can find pdf.'s that cover how to do it yourself in case your rod is not listed. I hope this helps someone.

Dear Striped Bass Fisherman,
This is a critical moment in the fight to save wild striped bass, and Stripers Forever, a free membership, internet-based organization, is fighting to end commercial fishing to conserve striped bass and manage the resource as a quality recreational fishery.~ A legislative committee hearing on H796 (the Mass Striped Bass Game Fish Bill) will be scheduled for early January, and we need as many members as possible to show the politicians how many MA residents depend on striped bass for recreation, food, and income.~
If you haven't signed up yet as a member of Stripers Forever, here are a few things you should know:

Membership is free – no dues
There are no meetings to attend
All communication is via the internet and e-mail
Many of the top guides in MA support Stripers Forever
Stripers Forever’s only goal is to make striped bass a game fish, which means it would be managed for the benefit of the recreational fishing public, now and for future generations.

Here is all you have to do - it will take less than a minute and cost nothing:

Go to www.stripersforever.org
Select “Become A Member”
Fill out the very easy to follow sign-up sheet.

This is a critical time. Help Stripers Forever protect wild striped bass and,~ “Make It A Game Fish.”~

Come on, it's OK to tell, part of the lore of fly fishing is the tackle. The love of fine tackle is what keeps magazines on the shelves and many a company in business.

I have been watching the favorite reel brand thread since it started and noticed some members posted photos of their favorites. So hey why not a thread where that is what you do?

Please just one brand reel per post and feel free to describe what it is that makes you love that particular reel or brand of reel. Yes it is OK to love your reel.

For my opener; A Hardy Viscount LA Disc 3.75" X 1" spool for lines 7/8. A smooth strong drag that has handled more AK. Salmon than any other reel I own and a large arbor to aid in fast retrieve when they come strait in.
