1 Fly....

If you had only one fly to fish with for the rest of your days, what would it be?

For me it would be a "Red Headed Hares ear" in size 16 with no bead, this fly has been an old standby of mine for years, standard tie using red thread.

Effective on streams and lakes, can be doped up and fished in the surface film during many Mayfly and/or Caddis hatches.

A great all around versatile bug.

Let's hear about yours??

Re: 1 Fly....

Hi to all,

Come on, only one fly on all of the waters in the lower 48.: Impossible, but If you include Alaska it would be a Wollybugger in black. If we don't include Alaska, then I would pick the Prince Nymph. It darn sure would not be a dry fly.

Frank

Re: 1 Fly....

A bugger would indeed be hard to beat. I'd prolly go with a diff't color, but size 10 buggers catch lots of fishes.

A size 10 version of my soft hackled diving caddis would be a close second for me though.

Re: 1 Fly....

Only one huh? I'd have to go with an Olive Wooly Bugger. Close second would be a Copper John though.

Re: 1 Fly....

I'd go with a size 8-10 bead head Wooley Bugger with Flashabou, & in either black or blue.. I read that blue is the last color visible in diminishing light & I've used it in deep water but not often enough to determine if it performs better than any other color. I know it will catch as many fish as black in 3-4 ft.of water..Any one else experiment with favorite color flies.???
