Re: 5 or 6wt

Well thanks for all the input. I am going to pull the trigger on a 9' FLi 5wt tomorrow. My 8wt is my saltwater set-up and if I want to throw larger flies for bass I will use that. The 5 will be my freshwater setup for small bass, bream, any trout vacations, and occasional night fishing on the coast for small schoolie specks at night in the green lights. Thanks again for the input. I think I will spool it with 5wt GPX. Any thoughts?

If you are going to be fishing from a kayak you want long(er) rods. 8-9.5' are the suggested lengths for kayak fishing. You are much lower in a yak and the rod length help keep the loop high and not tangle with things.

I was on a short rod kick for a number of years---a friend noticed that i raised my arm higher by a foot or so to cast and said " get a longer rod and you wont work so hard"---6-1/2 ft + 1 ft= a 7-1/2 ft rod---i got a longer rod and brought my arm down to a more comfortable position
