Re: Ari 't Hart Fly Reels
Jim,
The reel seat is installed on a rod and can then be used as a balance by sliding the reel back or forth. As far as you not liking the design, I am not at all offended. I understand everybody has their taste and that includes myself. We have 1500 of Ari's reel designs and I can honestly say I do not like all of them. The cost is not published to protect the integrity and pricing of our dealers but I can say our reels are anywhere from 1800 to 4000 dollars. For this reason alone, I did not think that getting a general opinion would offend anybody as very few of us would consider paying such a price. The prices are simply based on producing our reels in Holland over Korea or China as well as the limited quantity, ranging from 20 to 200 reels. If we can lower the prices and still earn a decent margin, we will do so on future models. I see these reels mainly as collectors items but a large percentage does use them as fishing reels. I trust this is in line with buying a ford or ferrari, it is all a choice or ability. I experimented by posting on several blogs to get opinions and feedback as we can't put reels all over the world for free. I appreciate the feedback! Roger |

Re: Ari 't Hart Fly Reels
i recall some years back in islamorada seeing an old pair of Hart's that purportedly were Aptes...his designs are unique and some for me pleasing...however, fine design at their pricing for a fly reel is a bit much; moreover, their marketing of fine design reminds me of the last years of Capt. Mac in Seamaster...when their god was collectability...the change IMHO came with the advent of CNC machining and what Abel did and what Ted Jurasck did...why pay the Seamaster rate for CNC when Abel/ Jurasck CNC was substantially cheaper...I certainly appreciate the significant difference with any Seamaster's that Mac did on a lathe and bridgeport...
These new Hart's while design neat are valued in design and restricted supply to maintain value... Their market is narrow so their post here is practically insignificant ... .however,IMHO it would become significant and inappropriate if this post is but a puffing "stalking horse" for a sale of designs to Wang of China, Korea, etal and they slip in like the rest of the label merchants with third world goods at premium prices At their pricing for design, for me, I would purchase a pair of genuine Knoll Barcelonas and another used Eames Chair in Rosewood..that is if I hit my numbers |
