Beginner combo, poll
which one of these fly rods do you guys think are good for a beginner. I thought i was getting a TFO rod but i heard some bad things saying there ugly rods, bad cork and other things. I've heard good and bad things about all of them. Which one do you think is the best value that will last me a while.
here are the websites for the rods: Cabela's LST/RLS Fly Combo with Fly Line Cabela's -- St. Croix Reign/Cabela's Prestige Plus Fly Combo Cabela's -- Temple Fork Outfitters™ Lefty Kreh Professional Series/Cabela's Prestige Plus Fly Combo Cabela's -- Redington Red.Fly2 Fly Rod Outfits |

Re: Beginner combo, poll
I don't have any experience with any of those rods, but I do have experience with Cabela's. You can't beat doing business with them. If you order one of those setups and don't like it. You can swap for a different one with no questions asked.

Re: Beginner combo, poll
I just purchased the new 5wt. Triumph St.Croix rodfrom Cabela's and its the best I've casted with for the price I got it for! $110 for a 4pc. med. fast action rod that is very forgiving to the beginner and is priced right! Combo being priced at $160 .I've tryed several other higher priced rods and this seemed to work the best for throwing streamers as well as Dries....... just a few cents from the Lambster........ Tight lines...

Re: Beginner combo, poll
Look into the Ross Essence set or see if you can put one together from the Albright rod and reel sale. They do not have WFF line but you should be able to find some SA "Lefty" line for about $30,00. Good Luck

Re: Beginner combo, poll
One reason TFO has been successful is they provide a good product for the price. I've used my 8 wt. Jim Teeny for years on big bass and light salt water. The "finesse" series, which I have in 3 and 5 wts pretty much covers all the trout fishing I do.

I have had good luck with Cabela's fly rods,I have a XST 9FT 4 piece 10wt that is their salt water extreme and XST 9FT 4 piece 7wt they both cast like a bullet, fast and plenty of power,I also have one of their prestige 2 models in a 7.5ft 4 piece 4wt very light about 2oz it lays down a dry fly very easy, and if you dont like the rod you can return it with no problem's they send a return label with every shipment.
have a good and safe day. Captain Wayne Valley Fire Service,Valley Springs Calif. |

Re: Beginner combo, poll
I would look into TFO Series 1 rods and Okuma Magnitude reels if you want something lightweight, with a decent drag. Line, you can get Cabela's in store to make a combo on just about anything.
