bent spool

I dropped the 102 fly reel from anglers roost from about 4 feet on tile and the spool bent rendering it unusable.

My question is... does this make it a bad reel or do all reels bend that easily? I am new to this stuff and I'm trying to decide whether to buy it again or spend more money and get a warranty and maybe a more durable reel.

What do you guys think?

Re: bent spool

You do get what you pay for. I have wide range of reels that vary from the $20 special to the $200 birthday present to myself. I have never dropped any of my reels onto tile, but a rock now and then has happened before. The lighter reels will have a tendancy to bend and be more fragile because of the lighter material used. My favorite reel is indistructable. It is a dye cast reel from the 1960s. I would suggest a better reel, but prices are always the determining factor.

John

I doubt most warranties would cover damage from dropping the reel.
