best wading shoes....not boots?

I'm interested in what others have found to be comfortable and slip resistant shoes for wading without waders? I have Chota boots and love them but with summer here..I will start wading in shorts on hotter days.

I've seen the Keens but I'm looking more for lightweigth, breathable shoes with closed toe and mesh sides to keep small rocks/debris out. Suggestions?

I have a pair of Simms Wading sandals...Enclosed toe cup, felt soles; I like them a lot.

I have a pair from ecco water shoes. They are super light weight and closed in with mesh on the sides.

I use a pair of water shoes that i have had for a few years (payless special). They have a pull string lace.

Re: best wading shoes....not boots?

this summer ( its not summer quite yet here in the butte)
I am going to try two new things.
I have an old pair of chacos that I am going to put felt on the bottom and try. I am also greatly enjoying a pair of solomon tech amphibians that I am going to put felt on and try in the river. I recomend the amphibs for summer use, I think they are great, but the rubber sole is super slippery in the river. Hopefully the felt will help. I also have simms wading socks that I will try with both options to see what works best. I will report my pros and cons when the river clears a bit.

Has anyone tried the Merrell WaterPro Utra or Maipo? Both look like great shoes.

Re: best wading shoes....not boots?

I wear my regular wading boots with neoprene socks when I wade wet. I've looked at the Orvis wet wading shoes but in the end I couldn't justify it. The socks are a little warm, but if your feet are under water all day long it doesn't make much of a difference.

I'm with dshort on this...your regular boots with neoprene socks...that's all I've ever used..never could justify the expense of sandals.
