What happened to the Tailwaters?
Besides, we all know you don't go past your knees....(JOKING)
I'll ask them about washing. I got the impression they didn't. Maybe because they only use them on the Arkansas? Like I said though. I'm sure i'll wash mine.

Even if I do only go to my knees.

edit...I thought the Tailwaters were too hot, and typical of Orvis. They were made too big. The Simms took care of both problems.

Re: breathable waders and condensation

Wouldn't the sweat be in the whatever they wear under the waders?

I guess this goes back to my not sweating. I wear Levi's under my waders and they are never damp. Even in 90 degree weather.

I must have Gore-Tex skin.

Re: breathable waders and condensation

A while back i had rolled up a pair of wet breathable waders & left them in the car for a while. They must have been damp inside because a mold developed on the inside of the waders. I asked For advice on this site & also called LL Bean ( The Manufacturer) & they said to wash them in a mild soap solution. they were stocking foot so I just put them in the washing machine on a gental cycle & they came out fine. Now I make it a point to hang them up to dry on a wire hanger ( I hook the lace hook on the gaiters to bends in the hanger) after every use...I've washed another older pair of breathable since then & although they looked reasonably clean the wash water was off color . This rejuvinated that pair of waders from an, only in a emergency if you don't mind getting a little wet, pair to a good spare pair for trips etc.... They too are about 10 yrs old.

Re: breathable waders and condensation

Seeings how Gortex has only been around for maybe 15 yrs, (in Breathable waders that is) I would guess those 10 year old waders have changed considerably.
Pete, every one sweats, some more than others. I am one that is accused of never sweating.
I am not dissing Simms, they are the best. I am working on my third year with the Pro Guides...knock on wood, and I wear mine probably more than most, specially since two years ago we got the Navigator II Pontube and unlike a regular Pontoon, you have to wear waders (cause your hind end will touch water).
I am thinking WJ for my next pair.
Besides, MOST the issues I have heard about waders leaking have been SEAMS and it don't matter what the material is in that case, but enough of that, back to the waders issue....WASH THEM!

Re: breathable waders and condensation

Okay, you say you don't sweat (except in Orvis waders, not sure what that means, breathable is breathable and according to a magazine, Orvis' answer to Gortex rated very high).
If that is the case, why not be like Yatahay. Why buy the most expensive breathable wader out on the market, why not $49. for Neoprene. Lord knows they fit better, and you wouldn't have to wear levis, then you would have all this extra money for Rods, Reels and line.

Re: breathable waders and condensation

Everybody sweats. What's different is what it takes for someone to start sweating. I can wear Simms waders and Levi's and not sweat in the weather I get in Colorado. Which right now is pretty hot.

Regardless of what some mag said. I was hotter in the Orvis waders.

Not counting Simms. There's 20 companies that make waders. They're all made by two companies in China. None of them are tested for leaks.

I'm sticking to Simms. Thanks for your thoughts sweaty...err sweety.

Re: breathable waders and condensation

My waders (Orvis) were put together in KOREA, big difference in my book, but on the up side, my SIMM'S ultra light boots were made in CHINA.
