Down at the in-laws for Christmas. All the women headed out on Christmas Eve for last minute shopping.

Looking around for something to do - I eyeballed the very, very small pond in the community where the in-laws live.

Swallowed pride, grabbed a rod and had a GREAT TIME! Those bass were desperate for attention!

I think I'll look for a few more like this around here :-) Thought twice about posting the blog with this, but - what the heck - maybe somebody needs a poke to enjoy a nice small pond.

I would fish in a puddle if it had fish in it. your pond had some monsters for being very small. I never caught a bass that big in our river yet

You do feel a bit goofy working a small pond like this, but as soon as you start catching fish - the heck with that - who cares.

I'm going to check out some other small ponds in my area for more fly fishing "practice" when I can't get to some real water :-)

Growing up in Western Massachusetts my Dad and I used to fish a place called Brickyard Ponds, it was a series of man-made ponds that had filled in, and they were small, to the point where you could roll cast to the other side wide and slightly longer in length.
There was a series of 3 or 4 of these ponds (they may have interconnected underground, don't remember)
Those ponds held some BIG Bass, and they were fun (and extremely difficult) to catch, especially with a fly rod because of the brush and the steep dropoffs.

IMO small ponds have yielded some of the biggest fish of my life.
