Would anyone here ever consider wearing a kilt for fly fishing? The only reason why I ask is because I am designing a kilt to be worn for fishing. I have posted it on a few other sites that I post on and have gotten some mixed reviews.

What would the advantage of a fishing kilt be?

I tend to think they would ride up inside the waders.

Thats just it! No waders! Why would you need one? Imagine standing in a nice cold river with some wading boots on, cold water on your legs (among other things) nice hot day and you're fishing. What I'm trying to do is design a kilt that will work for fisherman but more for fly fishing. Maybe some suspenders that will allow you to have a small chest pack, pockets on the sides of the kilt that are waterproof with waterproof zippers. A place on the back of the suspenders for a net. Stuff like that.

I guess it depends on the size of the worm you are tossing out there. I actually thought of sewing in a swimsuit lining. This might give you a bit more control and security while in the water.

Mixed reviews? Imagine that!

I think it makes about as much sense as a skiing tutu or baseball flippers.

I've been at this a while and I'm not even confident enough in my casting to risk it. I want my bits covered by something more than drapery while a hook is flying around.

I could imagine somebody using a kilt for flyfishing if they liked to feel "freer" and more "airy", but still wanted their thighs to be covered from the sun. That would be the same reason why anyone would wear a kilt for any other situation, though. As someone pointed out, kilts can offer backpackers certain advantages for minimizing chaffing. I just can't see any flyfishing-specific advantages for the kilt as compared to something like fast-drying shorts or a swimming suit.
