Live where you fish!Campground host needed

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for interested, reliable and committed volunteers who would like to live at the Merrill Lake campground during the summer months (one month commitment is ok-July is taken) to provide a positive, helpful and informative DNR presence as camp hosts. Merrill Lake is located about an hour NE of Vancouver and is one of the premier fly-fishing only lakes in Washington. This small 9-site primitive campground is nestled in amongst a patch of old growth forest near the base of Mount St Helens. The host pad will accommodate a 24-foot RV, with septic hookup. There is no phone. Limited power by generator is possible.
Hosts have two primary duties – to conduct general campground maintenance, and to act as a point of contact for campers. To inquire about a volunteer host position, please contact Carlo Abbruzzese, Natural Areas Manager, at (360) 274-2056 or email at carlo.abbruzzese@dnr.wa.gov.

That sounds almost too good to be true!

Wish I could do this, but My wife and I are planted for a few more years, maybe the in-laws would be interested, I will copy this and show them.

Good Luck.

It's true! There is a whole industry that is structured around what we call "Workamping". We run a highly rated rv park in Durango, CO and all our season staff trade work hours for site, including full hookup, free internet, free propane, free laundry and store discounts. Usually 18 or so hours per week per person.

Bobb,
Can you post a link for this? I think the Inlaws would get into something like this in a few years.

You're welcome. There are a lot of people who are full time RV'ers. They follow the sun year 'round. By workamping they can save big by not paying space rent. Most employers require some time commitment. Ours is May 1 to Sept 30.

My wifes Aunt and Uncle did this for several years. they ran the Red Ives camp ground up on the St Joe river here in North Idaho for several years and went to Nevada during the winters. When we went to visit my son and I fished while the women folk sat in the shade and cought up. I was envious that we had to leave and they got to stay all summer.
