Marryat MR Reels

I'm the new kid-on-the-block. Will have to fess up that I fly-fish almost solely for large and small mouth bass and bluegills. I live in Iowa

I do have a question regarding a Marryat MR8 reel that I purchased about 15 years ago. I happened to notice that the foot of the reel says "made in Japan".

This seemed odd to me as I thought Marryat MR reels were Swiss made? Or, were some manufactured in Japan? The reel certainly to my eyes seems to be authentic.
