I got the Gold 2.5. I wouldn't trade the reel off for anything. But,you have to get parts from a third party. Good drag system and built like a fort.

From what I know, great reels, though heavy and totally unaffected by the Large Arbor Revolution.

Re: Penn International Fly Reels??????

Thanks guys,

I guess i will head over there in the morning and see if it is still there. didnt look to see if it was a 2.5 or a 4.0 but if it is i will give it the once over and see if it is worth the $250 they were asking.

TB:
Also look for Pate direct drives...some of the all solid...spool and back...your young you can handle the heft...good high reps...not much for definition...but will give you staying power for big fish and yes the penns are really good get the largest...tarpon pate if you can what 2-3 ozs...even if you do not need capacity just use 50-80 dacron to fill...thenbraid 65 backing and 10 wt

Re: Penn International Fly Reels??????

BF41,

There is a guy selling a Pate bonefish and a Pate Tarpon on craigs list. he is offering up some other goodies as well, like 2 custom 1pc 10wt. from biscayne bay rods, and a 1pc 12 wt from them also. i think he has some tying materials and vises too. i gotta save up some $$$$..... home expenses drained the funds.
