Question Reel help?

Greetings all,
I recently purchased my first fly rod outfit; right now it its set up as a left hand retrieve, but I would like it to be a right hand retrieve. The reel is a Redington SVII and, basically, I've been reading online that it can be set up both ways, but I can't figure out how to change it from the left hand retrieve to the right hand retrieve. Please help

I'm not specifically familiar with the Redington, but generically most reels reverse direction rather similarly. If you dismount the spool from the reel you should see an exposed spindle (post) on the reel. Look (test) to see if the spindle actually holds a round "drum" or "hub", held on the spindle by a c-ring or equivalent retaining mechanism. Spin the "drum" or "hub"--it should free wheel one direction and drag/clutch the other direction. If that's the case, you've found the mechanism. Remove the c-ring (or equivalent retaining device), slide the "drum" or "hub" off the spindle, invert it (place the "top" side "down"), re-install it on the spindle, and finally, re-install the c-ring.

The c-ring is best removed with a small needle nose pliers, taking care that it doesn't spring away and become lost. Most folks recommend covering the shaft and c-ring with a soft cloth before attempting to remove the c-ring. A small screw driver or sharp device (i.e. ice-pick) will also work if you can't find small needle nose pliers, but the odds of having the c-ring spring away and become lost increases greatly.

Re: Reel help?

The hub does not look like it is reversible. see pic.

Re: Reel help?

I put the reel back together but the drag wasn't clicking. I took it apart again and there was a loose spring that fell out of somewhere. Now I really need help!

Re: Reel help?

OK. I fixed the spring! So back to the hub. On one side there is plastic (or something that looks plastic) and on the other side its metal. Does that mean it can only go one way, or is it still reversible?

Easiest way to find out is to flip it over and see if the drag/free wheel directions switch. I suspect it does, but as I wrote in my previous post the information I'm passing to you is generic--it might not specifically relate to the Redington reel you have.
