Reel seat troubles
Hello,
I bought new rod (TFO 4pc 5w Signature) and having troubles with the reel seat. My curret reel foot does not fit under the grip (the space is too narrow). My other tfo 2 pc signature has an all metal reel seat and doesn't have any issues at all. Besides filing down the reel foot (I dont know what the correct term is) are there any other options? thanks |

Re: Reel seat troubles
I have the same problem with the new Asian made Battenkill LA's. I even told Orvis the foot is bigger on the Asian reel. They just said, sorry, so I sanded the reel foot down.

Re: Reel seat troubles
I did not know that the signature series came in a four pc. Have you gone back to shop and tried your reel on another rod in the store for a fit? Maybe there is a defect, it happens.

Re: Reel seat troubles
I have used Archuleta's Reel Works to grind down reel feet for me.
He can grind down the foot, and if you want he can also anodized it to match the original. I'd highly recommend his services. Archuleta’s Reel Works | Fly Fishing Reel Repair |

Re: Reel seat troubles
I guess it depends on how inexpensive the reel is. Archuleta has very reasonable rates. Give him a call, let him know what you want done, and he will quote you a price. I've got a relatively inexpensive Pfleuger I'm sending to him right now for foot grinding.

Re: Reel seat troubles
bill's work is HIGHLY rated on a popular bamboo forum. he is often described as a magician when it comes to manufacturing replacement parts, even for obscure or old reels which have either monetary or sentimental value. i'm considering him for a small job but have yet to use his services.
