I think you could probably make it work for you. As long as it feels ok and somewhat balanced, I would imagine the only drawback would be the smaller line holding capacity? There are people much wiser than me on here though that probably chime in.

I agree with fishenrg. Balance wise there will not be much of a weight difference between a 3/4 and 5/6 reel, you'd have to cast it and see. But you will be giving up line capacity namely backing in order to squeeze a 6 wt line on a 3/4 reel. You will also be sacrificing drag power, a 3/4 reel will have less drag than a 5/6.
My recommendation would be to get and affordable and dependable 5/6 reel. An Orvis Battenkill disc drag 5/6 reel can be had for $85.00 and carries a 100% guarantee of satisfaction. I own two of these reels, had them for about 17 yrs and never had a problem.
