Rotator Cuff surgery

About a year ago - after only a few early spring fishing trips - I tore the rotator cuff completely off my right upper arm. Ouch. Yes, it hurt. Surgery, then a long rehab with lots of physical therapy. Had to cancel a planned salmon/fly fishing trip to Alaska. Good news is that a year later, the shoulder has come back a long way and things are looking pretty good. I haven't been fishing yet this year, but will be doing so soon.

If you're facing this surgery - and it's as extensive as mine (I got this really awful feeling when the doc told me "almost beyond repair") take heart - shoulders do heal. It just takes time and effort.

See you on the stream! Guy

Hi Guy,

Always glad to hear a success story. I hope you make up for the loss fishing time.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery

Congratulations on the recovery and welcome back to fly fishing. Consider learning to fish with your other hand. I have bad shoulders and don't want to do the surgery, though nothing like you went through. So I learned to fish with both hands so when my shoulder hurts I can switch to the other side. Comes in handy drift boat fishing. I'm stronger with my left but a close second on the right. Long distance casts still require me to go left handed.

Re: Rotator Cuff surgery

Hi Guy

And Thank You Guy,you have given me inspiration, I had the surgery just 2 months ago and am finding it a slow process getting back to normal strength.
But for me the glass is half full,my rod arm is ok,I just have to do some funky
stripping and retrieving.
After reading your post I see there is light at the end of the tunnel

Thanks Again
