Hey guys. I have fished all my life but just recently started fly fishing. I'm a Texas boy so I'm always chasing them large-mouth bass. But after finding my dads old fly rod in the attic, I've been hooked. I have a trip planned next weekend to colorado, in the Durango area. I have been studying up and trying to learn the ropes but I'm still not 100% confident about my technique and strategies. I was just hoping to recieve any tips or pointers i can get before I try my luck in colorado. Thanks in advance. Eric

That should be a real fun trip. They got a tremendous amount of snow this past winter and I'm guessing that run off has not finished, at least it hasn't around here. I'd recommend getting a guide and fishing the San Juan. Its pretty technical water, but its a tailwater, but a guide can get you up to speed on your casting and they know how to get you into fish. I've fished there a few times and its always a great time. In the past I've used Duranglers in downtown Durango.

Hi Eric,

You may have some problems with access around Durango. It is a neat town. We wanted to move there until we found out the housing prices. If you get a chance the Mexican Restaurant on main is pretty good. Not far from the fly shop.

Larry has given you good advice. Even if you don't hire a guide you should try the San Juan. There is good access and some nice fish. It is not a bad drive from Durango.

Frank
