Hey what would be everyones ideal fly shop? Would you want to ever own one or start it up? If you could what would it be like? Is it the small comforting places that your don't feel out of place in or is it a warehouse that often seems endless. Where would you locate your store, in a city center or near a river? Also what city or area would you do this in? Would it have anything besides just a fly shop? Such as an area to relax, possibly grab a drink or two and just talk fishing for a while?
I was just thinking owning a fly shop would be an enjoyable business but what if you could make it more somehow? Maybe its just unrealistic and all but just some crazy ideas that have been popping into my head as I've been unable to get out to the river. So if your not able to spend your time on the river but do have a few hours to kill why not immerse yourself in the next closest thing. Let me know what you think, please don't hold back your thoughts if you also think I am nuts and do need to seriously allocate some time to get to the river. Curtis |

Re: Ultimate Fly Shop/Place To Hangout
realistically: Open early so I can buy stuff the morning before I leave. Not the mega stores. I buy at a store dedicated solely to fly fishing and it's about the size of a small one bedroom house. It's just outside of downtown, and that's good. Easy to get to.
I live 1.5hours from the nearest store that has ANY fly fishing equipment now (used to be 5 min) so I'd love a mail order service or something along those lines since I REALLY need a leader and am in trouble. I could buy online I suppose... ANYWAY... A good place to cast is essential.. I had to cast in a parking lot praying I didn't hit any cars when I tried my rod. An indoor testing place would be amazing, especially since you could do the SAGE cast analizer there. An adjacent bar/resturaunt would be good if you were on/very close to a main river. Downtown wouldn't make sense having a bar/grill. |
