I fished a few times this January with the water temp in the mid to upper 30's (Yeah, the fish were darn sluggish). I stayed pretty comfortable in neoprenes whereas my brother was freezing in his breathable chest waders. Then again, maybe I'm just a hot-blooded Hungarian!
I posted this earlier in the thread, but will post it again, i fished a day this year, where the high got to 7 degrees. I was using breathable waders, and was not cold at all that day. I think the newer polar synthetics are just as good if not better than neoprene in insulating against the cold.

Re: Waders Poll

I have a pair of LL bean Wicked tough breathables & I fish all year with them. I havn't used the neopremes in a few years. Ever since I picked The polar fleece wading pants I've been snug as a bug in a rug.. You can't expect to wear jeans & stay warm, it just dont work........ I understand Orvis has a problem with thier boot foot breathables from a friend. He has gone through a few pair & they just gave him a pair of thier best breathables, the ones with the lace up boot attached, to satisfy him. He used them Sat. & said so far so good.

Re: Waders Poll

I ordered a pair of Clearwater Endura Breathable Bootfoot waders. They should arrive tomorrow at 9AM.

Only $198. I never looked at Orvis before, but now that's the brand I buy! LOL With attached boots, I can slip in them in a couple seconds..... I hate all the time I spend tying the stinkin' laces and getting all the sand out of the boots.

Orvis has the most sizes available with all their waders. I'm a tall guy...... and extremely handsome guy, 6'4", and Orvis has a custom fit that would be perfect for me.

This year, 08, I'm spending what I have to spend to make my fishing experiences wonderful.

Scuze me, while I tie a fly

Re: Waders Poll

I've had the same pair of Hodgkins Wadelite breathable chest waders for
4 years. Never a leak. My wife has the same pair, and they work just as
well. Hodgkins sells another pair of breathables one step lower, but they're
made in China, and fit terribly. The Wadelites are made in S. Korea, and fit
like a glove. The Wadelites were on sale at Sports Authority when i bought them, but they sell for around $115 now.

I should say that I try not to abuse the wader, and don't kneel on rocks, etc.

Re: Waders Poll

i picked wet wading with sandals because in the summer the water is still cold but the weather is warm (kind of). In the winter i use neoprene waders if the water ever gets low enough so it will not sweep all 240 pounds of me away (happened before )

Re: Waders Poll

I've usually used rubber hip waders, but I've went full on and got the Orvis Clearwater Endura breathable sockfoot waders and a set of Allen Big Horn boots.

I plan on doing with these what I did with the Hippies: The adidas equivalent to the UnderArmor, then a sweat shirt/sweat pants, long athletic socks/wool hunting socks and a button down shirt.

Always keep the lightweight zipup jacket around in case of rain.

The first year I waded, I used the hippies with just jeans and long underwear. Never do that again. During the late evening, my legs shivered so much, I could barely stand any more.

Bluebird,

What do you think of them? I'm thinking about buying a pair, since I'm not going to be able to get my weight down to what I need for my "go-to" waders before I lleave late next week for the San Juan/NM.
