That's going to be a trade off

The longer rod will make it easier to fish out of the yack, the smaller rod however may be better for storage. Take a look at the Stowaway/CSR 5 piece combo's they come in a variety of sizes and weights. I have the 8.5 3wt. I love mine. it's a great little compact rod.

before you buy anything contact steve at THE FULL CREEL. on my last combo he beat cabelas price by about a 100 dollars. see what he can do for you. either pm him or call his fly shop up and talk to him. i've done this a couple of times and he's very helpful. i won't buy another rod unless i contact him first.(unless it's a steal) i don't think you'll be upset by checking with him first though.

Re: what should i get?!?!?!??!

I use it for most of my trout fishing. I don't get into short rods much, I like the way an average trout feels while fighting it on my 3wt.

Re: what should i get?!?!?!??!

We mostly fish the tailwaters all year round.
On most days I'm not going to throw a fly bigger than a 16 sulphur with 22-32 midge dropper.

That is some little bitty stuff, but yes a 3wt will do it quite well. I bet you'll want to get a 5 or 6wt set up with sinking line to go for the bigguns in there soon though. Would be easier to cast on a windy day too, and if you wanna fish nymphs deep with weight in a fast section.

Re: what should i get?!?!?!??!

I wasn't in anyway suggesting that kayak cruiser should get a 3wt. They have many lengths and sizes in the Cabela's Stowaway. I just mentioned the three weight because it's the one that I have and I am happy with it. I would never try to fish a 3wt from a boat though. I thought that the stowaway combos where in his price range and he could find a good rod to suite his needs that would be both compact for a kayak and a great rod.

Re: what should i get?!?!?!??!

Like stated above, Steve can probably get you a better outfit at a cheaper price.

Hew is out of town till the 12th so it might take him a little longer than normal to respond.
