Winter Warm Water discharge
If any of you live in colder climates, and have a power plant with a warm water discharge area, these can be great fish magnets. I look forward to winter fly fishing for incredible action for a variety of species.
My first trip this winter I caught 43 fish in about 2.5 hours. Most were Skipjack, a shad species. Most were 12 to 16 inches in length. Last year I caught many that were in the 20 to 22 inch range. Here is a link to a video I made this year on Christmas Eve day. My daughter Jeanne hadn't been flyfishing in about 6 years, and had never used a sink tip line, but she soon caught on. The fly we used was a green and white Clouser Deep Minnow. The skipjack preferred a fast retrieve, but we caught half a dozen saugers (basically walleye with different coloration) by using a slower retrieve along the bottom. We also caught white bass, laremouth bass, and an occasional Striped Bass. NAFFF Videos: Christmas Eve 2007 Fishing.wmv
