We visited the North Georgia Mountains to fish the upper streams, Wildcat creek fished ok but Moccasin Creek fished very well. We spent the day working our way up stream, we tied on Stimulators and BWO's sizes 14's which caught us Trout none stop! The Rainbows were very aggressive, the largest Bow was ten inches. The leaves were starting to change and a chill was in the air, Mike and I worked the stream hard all the way up to the hiking trail. We used 3wt.rods and short leaders to stay out of the tree's, this stream holds scattered Browns and the upper section above the falls holds pure strain Brookies. If you tackle this stream you need to be in good shape, the terrain is very tough in places! Quality Brookies above the Falls and the trail ends once you get past the falls....... the creek runs aprox. 4 more miles to the head waters. From hwy.197 its 5.4 miles to the first set of falls then 1.2 miles to the Triple falls. For more info see www.GeorgiaFlyGuide.com

Thanks for the reply! We need water here in the mountains and the Lakes could use some as well........ some of the streams are in great shape! Tight Lines...... we'll be posted photo's of our trips in the gallery!

Which hiking trail and which falls? Did you begin at Lake Burton and go up from there or did you start around Wildlife Trail or Hemlock Falls Trail? Was there any camping?

( Hemlock falls trail ) starts just after the gravel parkinglot...... follow this to the first set of falls, the second set of falls is where you have to do alittle climbing to get to the Best Brook Trout fishing! Rainbows are in good numbers below the falls! From the parking lot to Hemlock Falls or the Triple falls is aprrox. 2.3 miles. When you camp make sure their isn't any posted signs saying NO Camping! The trail is in very good shap but has a few logs along the way up! From the parking lot upstream are a few nice primitive campsites... Rainbows will average 4 to 6 inches and sometimes 10 inches.... I don't keep any Trout in these waters..... above the Triple falls the water becomes very spooky because it dosn't get fished that much because of the overgrowth of Rhodadendrons which cover the banks. Here the trail vanishes and your on your own! A small flyrod 5 1/2 to 6ft. works very well plus a short leader of 5ft. Caddis flies / Orange Stimulators, Black Ant Parachute sizes # 14's and 16's will catch you plenty of Trout! Tight lines!
