Hi guys,
i have been fly fishing for about 10 yrs now.. i mostly fish tandem bead head nymphs. i am having a lot of trouble tying the tandem... i have started to use the blood knot, but the other day i had a 25 inch trout break me off right at the knot, i also used to tie the tandem straight off the hook of the first fly, but i had a number of nice trout pull my hook straight and then break me off... any advise?

Hi Mike,

Sorry you lost a nice fish. There are a few things you might think about.

1. Use a 2X heavy hook for the first fly if you tie onto the first fly bend.

2. Use a larger hook for the first fly that is 2X heavy if you tie onto the bend.

3. Tie to the eye of the first fly.

4. Use a Improved Clinch knot and tie the second fly to the main line just in front of the first fly. You can also use a Uni knot instead of the Improved Clinch.
