For trout fishing, what do most of you prefer, a traditional pattern or a parachute style, etc?

Caddis. Much easier to tie, and trout eat at least as many of them as they do mayflies.

Caddis for me, too. Mostly dark brown to cream deer or elk hair, sometimes with a little flash attached to the a teased out dubbing. From March Browns hatching to late summer terrestrials falling into the waters, these always seem to work for me for trout. I haven't used many parachute style flies b/c my basic caddis works and are big enough for me to see fairly easily. In fact, I use a fly with marabou tail and some flash that has a caddis like head for bass. It's not quite a muddler head. It kills for top water and then sinks for just under the surface when it gets real wet. So I love that caddis.

I also tie & use a lot of Caddis but my goto type of fly is a Comparadun.
they ride in the water like a real fly, are quick & easy to tie & definatly work.
For small (under Sz 18) I use CDC for the wings. I like the look of a micro fibbit tail rather than deer or elk.................

It looks like an f-fly that I tie, where I also use cdc, but I've never fished my f-fly yet. I need to get out on the water more often.
