Re: The ultinate smallmouth fly!!!
When I began seriously FF'ing for smallmouth about 5-6 years ago, I
found that Clousers worked much better than Wooly Buggers. I tried WB's quite a bit, but Clousers almost always worked when the buggers failed. I use chartruese and white hair, with a dose of flashabou, mostly on #10 bass bug hooks. Chain bead is used rather than lead eyes: the fish don't seem to mind, and I don't have to worry about lead hitting my rod tips. |

Re: The ultinate smallmouth fly!!!
caught my smallmouth bass on a clouser I make and rock bass on the foam spider I made for the swap or as joni calls it my ant!! jk. lol . heres my patterns. clousers, its a lake erie shiner pattern. its pearl flash wrapped up shank for lateral line. bead chain eyes. olive and white bucktail clouser style with a couple pearl flash strands for lateral also. works great. have caught steelhead, 2 smallies and a carp on the same clouser minnow. also red/white works great too made the same way.. will let ya kno the other colors soon because I love my clousers so much now I got 2 packs of bucktail pieces with 12 assorted colors so now I can make blue/white, orange/brown, a yellow bottom/blue middle/olive top that I will call a mini gill and others including black/white, also a white/pink/olive as a rainbow pattern and all that alos chartreuse, flouro yellow, whites, browns, greens, etc lol. all colors! its my go to fly other than a black leech or black bugger for bass as I have caught 8 bass in one day using a black bugger with green flashabou as lateral lines. lots of stuff work! find the fish and put the fly over um and you should get one..
