The 2 piece rods and 4 piece are all comparable, but I have found my 9' 2 piece rod to be a pain. It doesn't really fit across the cab of my truck, or in the trunk, I have to use an extra long rod tube.
3 or 4 piece might serve you better since the number one demise of fly rods is the car door. I really like my cortland rods if you are looking for inexpensive ways to get started. A 9' 9 wt GRX 100% graphite is like $89.00. They will service all their rods. As a matter of fact I broke off the tip of mine, sent it to them with $20... and they replaced the whole rod! They cast, fish and fight like a rod 2 or 3 times the price, and I'm never afraid to 'use' it. They offer rods from $80 up to $700 or $800 bucks and all are worth it. I really like them and have stuck with them. It might be worth a look for you while shopping around.
