I am working the opposite direction. I have saltwater fished for a few years now and am looking to get in trout fishing. Go figure?

It's all good. I still love stepping in a stream at 9,000 feet to catch Rio Grande Cutthroats.

Ops! Just noticed that!

In South Louisiana. Leeville to be exact. It is about 20 miles from Grand Isle. It is all inland saltwater marsh that we will be fishing. Plenty of Reds, some specks and some flounder and plenty of hard head cats.

Jack Crevalle are the most fun. Not because they are so big...because they aren't, but because they are so plentiful. You can catch them from the river, the intrcoastal waterway, the beach, the ocean, everywhere. They fight like nothing else in the same size range. Large tarpon are fun for a few minutes, after that I'm too tired to continue the fight.

We will be going to the Florida Keys (lower keys) for the winter and I would like suggestons on fly fishing the flats and any other areas. This will be our first time fishing this area.
What would be an all round fly rod and reel?
What flys should I start tying?

I'm sure that there are tons of other questions but let's start with these.

i think my favorite would be tarpon in the 60 to 120# range. The brute force is mind boggling , the jumps spectacular and for, me ,they can be frustrating at times. I cant stop going even as expensive as it is.

My casting goes to hell when a large pod approaches or casting to the edge of a daisy chain, I CAN cast better than that! Every edge on my shoes attracts the loose line on the deck.

A close second would be false albacore, although the presentation isnt anywhere as critical here, to strip a clouser or a crease fly through the mayhem of flying bait and birds and have a 12# albie slam it going 35mph gets the heart goin---

i havent caught a permit or sail on fly but they are on my list

It doesn't really matter from perch to stripers as long as my rod is bent. I think one of the joys of saltwater fishing is the variety, not knowing what you have hooked until you see it. My personal best was a 46" striper i guess it was around 30lbs (released) but its all great anything beside a skunk. Anything that will take a surface fly is exciting.
