Here is my first red. We were fishing the Laguna Madre near Arroyo City.

See photo below.

Hi Trucha,

Way to go. Some good Redfishing in that area. Tell us what outfit you were using and what fly?

Frank

Re: First Red.

On this day, I was using my friend's GLX with a Wulff Triangle fly line, all in 8 weight The going fly for us was a #6 Green/white clouser. I left my rig at the house; line was dead, time to change.

After we caught a couple of fish, we celebrated with a gurkha and a margarita. Then, this small red showed up and that I casted to.

Hi to all,

Here is Trucha's photo of his Red Fish. It was too large for a home page photo.

Re: First Red.

Congrats on your success! I'm jealous as I'm still waiting for mine. I fished for 2 days but weird weather and muddy flows for flooding upstream/MS river made for bad fishing for everyone in Grand Isle, LA. I did get to taste a bull red harvested by Jim in our group using "...commie tackle..."(aka spinning,non-flytackle). Best fish I've had in a while. So should I bring a Maduro for luck?

Re: First Red.

The first day we fished, we couldn't buy a strike. The reds were everywhere but nothing was hitting. It was busy with a lot of boats on the water, including a full moon. The second day was totally different. I busted off twice, on huge fish before I put a fresh leader/tippet on. My friend said it has been awhile since he has seen so many fish, so active.

A maduro in a churchill would do nicely.
