My wife just recently returned from a trip to the island of Vieques off the Puerto Rico coast. We had a blast on the island and will return in the future. I also hooked and lost my first bonefish there. The place has many flats that are wadeable from the beaches. Anyway, here is a Barjack that took one of my shrimp patterns.

I seen a guy on TV last night catching some on a fly rod. Looked like the fight good and he was keeping them to eat them.

Okay, photos you want...

This is where I hooked and lost my first bonefish. I am on a turtle grass flat in the back of the photo. There was a couple between my wife and I and she was under the small umbrella tucked up into the vegetation. She was singing to her baby with a sweet voice and the rush of the small, minute waves really set up the fishing. I also missed a baracuda here.



Here is where I hooked up the Barjack. That is a guide and his client looking on.



This beach is called La Peña. So, being that my surname is Peña, I had to fish it. Here I am with a small snapper. I also had a sea turtle come up and look at me at the beach, pretty neat.



This is the Malecon in Esperanza. The town is to our left (if you can call it a town). Behind the palms, is a Cayo that I would walk over and catch snappers by the dozen.



Sweet trip. Did I say I am going again. There is a Bonefish with my name on it.

The guide on the boat asked me if I was going to kill it. He said that they were good eating. My answer was "No, not this time." It is still out there waiting for my shrimp pattern to come into his vision.

This is my shrimp pattern. I got the basic pattern off the internet and added details to it.

I call it Pepe Prawn after a muppies movie charactor.

Great pics there man, I need to get over there some time. From your experience, how often is speaking Spanish necessary in the rich port?

That was great! Even my kids liked that. Now I have to add it to the posts I have done regarding my Vieques trip.

Spanish is the predominante language in Puerto Rico. But, most people have a very good working language of English. All employees of tourist related stuff; hotels, restaurants and such are bi-lingual.

We are planning a trip there shortly. It was fun. The fishing was fun. And, thanks for the links. I (excuse me, the kids and I) enjoyed them a ton.
