Re: decision breaker needed...

This has been really great info, and I do appreciate it.

And thanks for the info on the TFO's. They're kind of hard to find around here...Greentop SG has exactly 1 last time I looked. lol.

I know everybody gets sick and tired of these kind of questions. I guess I'm a sounding-board kind of person; although I already know deep down what a consensus will (or won't) be, I ask anyway to see if something new will form in my pea-brain. :-)

I think that's more or less the direction I'm headed. The simple answer is I need 2 rods, and neither comes out on top as "the main fish I will be hunting". I know it sounds nuts, but I travel a lot, and end up in one extreme or the other just as much as vice versa.

I could buy one, and save for the other, but I think it'll be a long time before lady luck allows it again. So it's really beginning to feel like the TFO's will be decent rods. I haven't felt them yet, obviously, but from my research it seems that a ticr 8 and one of the pro 4's is going to be about what I'm aiming for to keep me in my budget. Plus, I won't need new reels and lines...

Fun, ain't it? it's a good problem to have, I guess!

The TFO rods are pretty great. My only complaint about them is they are a bit on the heavy and ugly side. I would look at ECHO's Classic series. They're lighter, prettier, and have about the same price point and equal warranty.

If you are going with TFO, look at the TiCR series. The action is a bit hotter but not so stiff as to be unpractical. Actually, if you're getting a 4wt, look at their Finesse series.

If you're leaning towards Scott, I would look at the E2 series as well. They are a bit more money, but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Although I'm a bit biased, I'd go with the St. Croix Ultra. Although I've casted a Scott G (not made anymore) and I'm in love. Just not in love enough to come off the $350-$400 that people are asking for them.
