ds/ds2/launch

i know this has been discussed quite abit but id like confirmation on what you guys think.. the ds/ds2 sell for around 125-150 on ebay depending on 2pc/4pc, warranty card etc.. the launch sell for aprox 205 new in a 8 weight four piece with warranty... what would you guys buy and a brief reason why?...any other rod in that price range can be chosen if you wish.. thanks dave..

Re: ds/ds2/launch

I would buy the launch. While it will be a few more dollars, it will come with a lifetime warranty which a used rod will not. It will be able to be replaced should something happens where a discontinued rod would not even if you did have a warranty.

Plus, I think it is a better rod.

In Favor of the DS

Curtis and I don't often disagree but we do this time. I've got a DS 4-piece 8-weight ... I never figured out why Sage changed it because it works and works well ... Of course, it isn't "pretty." Fight the fish with the butt of the rod and it won't break...

I'd save myself a few bucks and got with the DS. I would apply the savings to buying very good fly lines...

Oh, don't get me wrong. If the difference in price is an issue then definately go with the one that you can get. I love the DS series rods. I wish they had not discontinued them. Seems Sage has a habit of getting rid of the great ones in their lineup; LL, SP+, RPL, and now DS. I am just saying that if you do have the cash, it might end up being a better deal to have the one that Sage will cover if something happens. Otherwise, scoop a DS and enjoy. It is a great rod.

Re: ds/ds2/launch

Well I guess I will keep my little DS2 7'-6" 3wt. I was thinking about getting rid of it for something different.

Hey, if you have one I would not get rid of it. They are great rods.

And fffg, $113 for a DS2 is a screaming deal.
