What you think about?
For somebody new to salmon fishing 15ft 10/11 AFTM rod is OK to try first casts or maybe 14ft 9/10 is better??

You use odd verbiage for a Glaswegian.

I'd recommend starting out with a 9' 8wt.

I'd have to go with Cliff, a 9' 8 weight is just about right. I wouldn't go any heavier unless going for King salmon.

Hi FlyPol,

Since you are asking about a 9/10 or 10/11 rod I must assume that you will be fishing for King Salmon. King Salmon in the 50 to 90 pound range needs a 10/11 weight rod. So I would go with the length of your choice in a 10/11 weight rod.

Now If you are fishing Atlantic or Silver Salmon a one handed 8wt would be a good choice.

Frank
