Looking for a new fly rod HELP!!!

Im looking for a new Salmon/steelhead outfit

I have one in mind ->

Cabela's LST Series/CSR Fly Combos

The one in 9' 8wt

I think it might work good for me seeing as I fish Bowmanville creek which is pretty small and the fast action will help me with smaller casts

Tell me what you guys think or show me some other suggestions you could give me

Re: Looking for a new fly rod HELP!!!

Hi Josh,

Let me say first that I have not seen this outfit. It seems to offer a lot of value for the money. The reel is a cast/machined reel and they are usually finished a bit better than just a cast reel. The line is very good.

Cabela's states that the rod is a fast action rod and that could be a problem for you. I don't know how well you cast but judging from your age you can't have too much experience. A fast action rod can be harder for a beginner to cast. Anybody can cast a fast action rod if they practice and adjust their stroke to match the rod. Some beginners have a problem making that adjustment. The faster action will help when casting in the wind and making longer cast. A slower action rod works better for short cast. I think the outfit you have chosen may be a good choice for a Salmon/Steelhead rod for someone on a budget. You will need a spare spool with a sink-tip line and then you will be good to go.

Frank

Cabelas makes some fine products and you can't beat their no fault/satisfaction guaranteed policy.
