Re: St. Croix fly rods.
I was looking at the Ultra fot the 10' 5wt. and I too was very impressed. I did read on another forum where someone was not happy with their repair service however. It seems he broke a rod, sent it back and the replaced the broken portion, but was not a good fit, so it broke again.
I ended up getting the TFO Pro. I tried them both at the Expo and really liked the feel of the TFO. Plus, $185. compared to $360. and life time unconditional warranty WAHOO! ![]() |

Re: St. Croix fly rods.
Definitly a different stroke for different folk. A tool for every job. Still got and love the Winston, Orvis, Sage and Scott, but for a 10' the TFO is the feel I was looking for. 10' are hard to find in the smaller weight. Sage does make a 4wt., but as often as I plan on using it and not sure it would feel any better, plus the fact that it is $600. makes you stop and go hmmmmmm.

Re: St. Croix fly rods.
I own one ... It's an Ultra Saltwater 6-weight and a fantastic rod ... fast and accurate with plenty of strength in the butt section.
Follow this link to read my review of the revised Ultra with IPC. Doug P.S. Regrets it took me this long to get back but I've had computer problems. http://www.landbigfish.com/articles/default.cfm?ID=1978 |

I own one … It’s an Ultra Saltwater 6-weight with IPC. For the money, it is a fantastic rod – fast accurate with lot strength in the butt section.
