I would have to agree with Davy. A 5 weight rod, 9' or 9'-6", although I just bought a 4 weight from The Full Creel I am looking forward to trying. Fishing Southeast Idaho and the Provo, chances of a 20" +/- are good.The fly would also be Hares Ear Nymph with the stipulations he mentioned. You guys have much more experience than I, but that is what I have experienced thus far.

My curiousity is up. What is a Flasback Hairsear ? Is it similar to the Hairsear Nymph ? What size hooks do you typically use to tie these patterns ? Thanks for your input. Tie One On

Mike,
Do you use tweezers or scissors to gather the materials for the Hairsear flies? Does it hurt?  I tried using Noseshair flies once in a tournament but got disqualified for having "organic attractant" on the fly.
