Thanks Aaron, the end of the rod is plastic. It doesn't look any newer than the rest of the rod. The two fixtures and thumb srew that secure the reel are metal. Is a cane rod bamboo? Thanks again, Don.

In a word, yes. Good ones are six strips of hand split, butt cuts of Tonkin bamboo, matched and balanced.
