baffled-now i need a new reel

Well this weekend I took my 7wt out of its case only to find the reel not attached to the rod. Somehow it broke where it would fit into the reel seat. It was an old reel but I didn't expect it to break where it did. Anyway, I now need a new one, not knowing much at all about reels I was wondering what everyones thoughts were. Are there cheap reels out there (retail) that aren't complete junk or am I looking at spending a lot to replace it. There are lots of items on ebay and craigs list but because I don't know much about reels, I don't want to buy complete junk. I use the 7wt for carp, pike, and bass.
I was also curious how often people replace their line and backing?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

My reco would be a Lamson Konic 3.5.

Replacing the fly line depends mostly on usage. Replacing the backing depends on whether its still functional. (likely still is, depending on whether mildew has set in.)
