Information on Hardy Bros reel

A friend who was an avid fly fisherman gave me the following reel shortly before he died (at age 87!)

House of Hardy England (Hardy Brothers (Alnwick) Ltd. The Princess, First Edition, Serial No 206

I would like to know more about it. Value? Antique quality? What weight rod does it require? etc.

Grateful for your help hjblumberg@verizon.net (Boston, MA)

Re: Information on Hardy Bros reel

If the line guard is a two-screw it might push 300$ in value depending on condition. They are very fine reels, and all a trout reel needs to be. I only use a reel with a drag for Trout when I'm fishing real heavy tippets 8-12Lb, big flies and don't want to let a fish run in heavy cover. Almost all of my standard trout fishing including Alaskan rainbows and Steelhead, Salmon is done with click and pawl reels. And the Hardy lightweight series had one of the best C & P mechanisms available
