Frank,
I really liked my Bauer which I picked because it was so quiet which was a big departure from my Ross. I really like the precision feel of the reel and it's looks. Six months ago I sent it back to Bauer to have an improved 4 roller clutch upgrade installed. Since it's been back it hasn't been the same reel. It sounds like a badly installed disc brake when stripping line out. It's been back to Bauer a second time but the problem persists. Bauer's headman wants it back to fix the problem for good so it's going back for the 3rd and hopefully final time. I've held off getting another Bauer for my 3 & 4 wt due to this. You shouldn't have to pay good money for finicky issues like this. Either it works or not... I'll update this forum on what the final result is.
Racine

Re: Need some advice for my New Sage SLT 5wt

Hi Racine,

That is a bummer but Bauer is a good outfit and makes good reels. I am sure they will get it sorted out for you. If they don't, I would ask for a new reel.

Ross makes some great reels but I can't stand the in-coming click. I just don't understand why they do that. I know when I am winding in line I don't need a click to tell me and disturb my peace and quite. I used a reel with an in-coming click one time on the Green River. Every time I wound in some line my fishing partner thought I had on a fish.

Frank

Old model, Mackenzie M3. Now known as Superlite 4. Reel is going back tomorrow. My other reels are Lamson Velocitys. The sound they make is nowhere as obnoxious as my old Ross Cimarron.
