Reel & Line Recommendation

Well, at the risk of sounding redundant to many similar questions out there, I'm hoping I can get some recommendations.
I received a TFO TiCR 5wt as a Christmas present so now I figure I need a new reel to go along with it.

I've looked at the Pflueger Trion and the Lamson Konic online and am leaning towards the Lamson because of weight. If I got with one of those...both around $120, what line would you recommend?

My total package cost for the reel and line is around $250. Here's the catch...I'd like to be able to get it from Cabela's. I don't have any specific loyalty to them, but I do have about $250 in C-bucks and gift certificates, but if the deal was truly exceptional I would consider buying something they don't carry. (of course, there is no need to reach the maximum price-point either!)

thanks for any help!

Re: Reel & Line Recommendation

A Scientific Anglers GPX or Rio Grand line would match up well with that rod. They're a bit heavy and will slow the action down a smidge. If that sounds bad to you, go with a SA "Expert Distance" or "Trout" line. Rio's "Accelerator" or "Selective Trout" would match those, respectively.

Re: Reel & Line Recommendation

Hi Fanatic93,

Cliff has about said all there is to say about the line. If you are a beginner then the GPX would be a very good choice for the TiCr rod. I think your choice of the Konic would be a good choice. Lampson/Waterworks make some very good reels.

The Konic at $120 and a $60 dollar line and you are way under your budget.

If you want to use your C-bucks I can understand why you are buying for Cabela's. Here is one suggestion. When you place your order click on the Cabela's link located on the NAFFF home page. This helps support this forum.

Frank

Re: Reel & Line Recommendation

Thanks for the help guys! I had talked with a local BassPro guy who suggested much cheaper line which had me a bit wary.
Thanks for letting me know about the Cabela's link too, I'll be sure to use it!
