Cases

Kind of a random question,

When storing rods and reels, is it better to store them separately (rod in a tube, and reel in its own case) or as one in a tube/case combo thing??

Thanks!

Re: Cases

I don't think there's a downside to storing the reel on the rod, but its best to store rods where the sections aren't touching each other. If allowed to rub, the guides from one section can eventually damage the blank on another section. (This leading to breakage is rare, but its still best to play it safe.

Re: Cases

Ok, cool, that makes sense...

So in the the cases that include the reels, do they have a sheet thing inside that all the pieces go in so that they stay separate (like when it's just a tube) and then wrap up and stick in the tube??

Re: Cases

They should, but I have no idea. If buying online, I'd look for a listing of "built-in divider" or some such thing.

Re: Cases

Hi Brushy,
A little off the subject but has to do with storage of rod and reel.

When your done fishing for the day and put your rod and reel in the case, be sure to 'unzip' the case when you get home or to camp, let your rod and reel vent the moisture out of the case.

I've seen the epoxy over the thread wraps fog up from the unwanted moisture before.

Nice to meet you too!

I do have a lot of 'gusto'! In fact next weekend I'm driving ~900kms to the nearest good fly shop so I can test cast everything that people recommend for beginners!

I'm pumped
