New Guy With Equipment Question
Hello all! According the message at the log in screen I have not made a post yet so I guess I will jump in.
I was looking at getting some of the Umpqua O-Ring Foam Indications and was wondering if anyone uses or had used these? I plan on doing some nymphing and wondered if these riding high enough to keep the fly in position. |

Hi to all,
Here is a picture of the Thingamabobber Strike Indicator that wtex50 is talking about. Teamanglerx, you should try some of these. I think you will like them better than the foam "O" ring indicators. Thingamabobber Strike Indicator ![]() Color choices

Re: New Guy With Equipment Question
I have some of the yarn indicators but wasn't sure if they would be able to work for nymphing. As for the thingamabobber one do they attach to the leader the same as the yarn indicators?

Re: New Guy With Equipment Question
I like those Umpqua foam indicators (AKA Rondicators) quite well when doing short range nymphing in heavy water with lots of weight. If one was fishing a tiny/fluffy/light fly rig, they wouldn't be ideal.
I actually make my own with rubber o-rings bought at the hardware store and foam strips that I cut with an exacto knife and custom mix colors. I think multicolored ones show movement a bit better. My favorite combos are dark green with chartreuse and tan with orange or yellow. (You can even make them so that the dull color is mostly on the outside and the bright one mostly in the middle so as to make them a bit more stealthy.) I haven't tried the thingamabobbers yet. They look like they would do about as well as the foam shuttlecock shaped ones though.
