Re: nubby questions
Ok, i would say it is going to depend on the type of water you are fishing, more so than species. Because in rivers of less than 3-4 feet deep with pockets in the 5-6 range you can get away with floating, but if you are fishing deeper water a sinking tip or more likely a sinking line will be needed.
In the type of places i fish, i can fish everything usually of floating line, very rarely needing to change. I would assume you can probably pretty easily get away with a 0x-4x range for tippet for bass, and with pike, even stronger could be recomended depending on where you fish. Also I am going to have to say i dont know alot about pike fishing, only having fished for them when i did 1rst-3rd grade on the town right beside lake sakawea. But i am remember using steel leaders when we got into the pike. |

Quote:
I use a full sink line and my favorite is DEPTH CHARGE in 300 grain (for a 6wt) The reason I like the depth charge is it is 30' of lead core line followed by 70' of intermediate. When I strip the fly, it pulls straight across the bottom. Quick jerks and it jumps like the real thing. I also have a TYPE VII for the warm months but that is better for leech patterns. I will add that "I" prefer a full sink line on rivers over sink tips and split shot. They are much easier to cast, and on the river my favorite is a TYPE II. I don't weight my flies and let the line put them in the zone with a longer or shorter tippet or straight mono or flouro. Weighted flies tend to grab the bottom too much. F.Y.I. There is two types of sinking line. Density Compensated will sink straight with no belly in the line. Wet Cell will form a belly while sinking. Great for weedy places. Joni |
