Lower Moutain Fork Cold Water Project

The Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation Cold water project is moving forward. This week the engineers with the Oklahoma Dept of Wildlife are installing air diffusiers 150 feet deep in front of the water intake at the Power House tunnel to try and reduce the water temp flowing into the lower Mountain Fork River.. They are using air compressors to pump air through rings placed on the bottom of the river channel that will in turn raise the cold water up and let it pass through the power generating tunnel. This is a project that is funded with the private funds of the foundation and 75% matching federal funds to help the fishery.. The foundation is continually seeking projects to enhance our trout fishery on the LMFR..

Another project that we are undertaking is RIVER WATCH. With the introduction of the new Evening hole regulations, fishing violations have been difficult to inforce as so many people fish the park and don't pay attention to the red and blue zones which have different regulations.. WE are going to print large pocket cards that may be handed out by local fly shops and foundation members to fisherman that are on the stream..So many are there for a family outing and just don't know how important the catch and release areas are.. Well you all come and fish the beautiful Kiamichi mountains on the Mountain Fork River in Mccurtain Co. Oklahoma. Mike Love

Re: Lower Moutain Fork Cold Water Project

are the new regs going in for the Evening Hole that haven't been published on the Oklahoma Wildlife Dept website? I've got a group of guys fishing up that way in the Fall and I want to make sure we're following these regs to the letter! Thanks!

Re: Lower Moutain Fork Cold Water Project

Regs are posted at the red zones including the Evening hole, Lost Creek and below the old park dam. These zones are NO BAIT, Arificial flies, lures, barbless hooks only and you may not keep any fish under 20". Blue zones are Bait allowed, barbed hooks and up to 6 rainbow trout. Happy fishing. ML
