Re: Bug Book?
Hi sesro
Art Flicks Streamside Guide was one of the more practical books that helped me---i see there is a Streamside Guide II now---the older one was small enough to put in your vest for a few trips til you learn whats going on---see what everyone else turns up. mike

Re: Bug Book?
I second the vote for Art Flicks Streamside guide. If you want good bug photos go to "http://www.troutnut.com/images/troutnut.gif. Jason has some awsome photos of insects there & you don't need a degree to understand his text

Re: Bug Book?
I like a book by Orvis called "Trout Stream Insects, An Orvis Streamside Guide" by Dick Pobst. It's also small enough to fit in your vest and has nice color photos.
For a fly tying pattern book, I have "Trout Flies, The Tier's Reference" by Dave Hughes. It's a great book. |

Re: Bug Book?
do a web search. Most of the time states often post common bugs in the state. Even here in ND they have tons of info on what bugs are common to what water or area. Also you can find a few good bug keys to id them. A simple google search on bug key or insect key will give you all the info you could want. But most require some work on your part.

Re: Bug Book?
sesro1978,
You might try this one Hatch Guide for New England Streams. Thomas Ames Jr. is the author. It's layed out where it shows the insect then the flies to use. The Trout Flies book mentioned is a great book by Dave Hughes. Also, try his Essential Trout Flies. The Benchside Introduction to Fly Tying is a great book. Hope this helps. Thanks, Terry
