new vise?

i had a vise i got from my dad 2 years ago but it was stolen in the dorms and no one will fess up.
i do not know what brand it was but it was just a simple straight forward vise it had a clamping a adgustible nut to adgust tightness and no fancy adgustments of the angle or any thing.
what is a good vise that is not over 60 dollars (preferably less) and is pretty durable cause i am going be slugging this thing between school and home a lot. it does not have to be rotary but it would be cool to learn to use one of those.
alot of sites are blocked here during the week (cabelas?? wtf) so i am going to look on my own soon. unless i get mine back even then i might still get a new one.

Re: new vise?

I have Griffin Superior 2A, and it's bomb-proof. I listed it on ebay before,
but cancelled the auction. It has the Griffin c-clamp and the Griffin
pedestal base. If you'd like a fantastic deal (half price, and less than your
budget), email me. This is an honest offer to help someone get a decent
vise (which I'm not using), and not a sales pitch.

My other suggestion would be a Griffin 2A bought from a store .
The HMH Silhouette looks nice, but it's around $95/shipped. There are cheap
knock-off type rotary vises available. Look at the Hook & Hackle E-Z vise.

Re: new vise?

Take a look at some bad pics first (early morning photography is tough)

The vise stand rod has an extension for use with the C-clamp, but it's not
shown inthe pics. It is right in front of me, however.

I'll PM the price and other details....

fin??whatfin??,
Have a read over this and then decide...

Fly Tying Vises In-Depth Review by Fly Fish Ohio!

Selecting the best fly-tying vise, by Hans Weilenmann and Bruce Salzburg

For the price you are looking at I would go with a Dan-Vise.

Good Luck,
Terry

Re: new vise?

Hi Piscator,
I tried a Dan-Vise at Cabelas, but the area around the jaws was just to
crowded and bulky for me. Plenty of people love them, however. Just
take a look at the photo, and try to get an idea if that'll work for you.

Right now, I'm tying on a Peak vise and love it!

Re: new vise?

The Peak is my second choice for you. Try out as many as you can before you buy if possible. When you've finally gone through them all you will end up like myself and own a Nor-vise. Good Luck.
Thanks,
Terry
